Epic Seven Wyvern Hunt and Otherworldly

Free Ice core, one Battle-Pet clear, then Background Battling into high-score gear.

Epic Seven Hunt and Wyvern

Hunt is the real endgame of a PvE account. Story chapters teach the combat system. Abyss tests mechanics. Hunt prints the Speed sets that make every other mode possible. Start on Wyvern. Do not open Golem, Banshee, or Caides because a YouTube thumbnail said they drop Attack set. Attack set does not go first. Speed does. The gear guide is the filter for what you keep; Background Battling is the offline queue after one real clear; this page is how you get the drops and how you clear the boss without a paid Ice limited.

If you have not finished stage 1-4, Selective Summon, and Connections, go back to getting started. Hunt energy on an unbound guest with no Furious is a waste of Leifs.

The free Ice core

Wyvern punishes non-Ice units (extra Combat Readiness for the boss when a non-Ice unit ends a turn) and wants two debuffs up so it does not one-shot the front. The game gives you the team:

RoleUnitHow you get it
Defense break / Crit buffFuriousConnections
Main DPSSigretFree through Hunt / expert Hunt missions — do not Selective for her
Debuffs / extra damageMuwiCovenant 4-star; keep him
Front tank + healAngelica or Angelic MontmorancyConnections, then Specialty Change for Montmorancy
Budget DPSAlexaConnections; sits in until Sigret is built

That is the entire beginner Wyvern. Names, Specialty Changes, and substitutes are listed with the other free units on starter heroes. Cross-check build priority with the PvE tier list if you pulled a Seaside Bellona or Dizzy and want to skip Alexa.

Daydream Joker is the Hunt artifact staple. Put it on Sigret, Alexa, and Muwi. Furious can hold Song of Stars or Infinity Basket if you have them; Joker is acceptable until then. Do not park a 5-star PvP artifact on a unit whose only job is hitting a 13-health-bar dragon.

How the fight works

Two waves. Wave one is trash snakes — survive it with ~7k HP on the backline so you enter the boss with a full team. Wave two is Wyvern. It hammers the front slot. Put the tank-healer there (Angelica or A.Mont). The back three can be glass if they are Ice and the two-debuff check is up.

Wyvern is immune to stun, slow, provoke, silence, and CR down. Do not bring those kits. Bring defense break, extra debuffs (Muwi’s kit is built for this), and single-target damage. Hell difficulty lowered the old 65% Effectiveness check; Otherworldly still wants roughly 55% Effectiveness on Furious and Muwi. Stack Speed on Furious so he breaks before Sigret hits — about 13 Speed faster than Muwi is the classic gap. When those two numbers exist on real gear, plug them into the speed tuning tool instead of guessing.

Sigret wants 140+ Speed, enough Crit Chance that Furious’s buff finishes the 100, then Crit Damage and Attack. She does not want a tank ring. A.Mont wants HP and Defense, not Effectiveness. If A.Mont dies, the run is over; if Sigret dies, you brought the wrong front.

One clear, then Background Battling

You do not need a 100% one-shot on day four. You need one successful clear with a Battle Pet equipped. The 8th anniversary replaced Repeat Battling with Background Battling: the game stores that pet-clear time, then farms offline while you close the client. Queue energy or up to 100 Leifs. Auto-sell and auto-extract from the gear page apply to the pile. After that first pet clear you can even swap the team — the timer is already recorded.

Missions still ask for “clear Wyvern N times” and “N clears in a row through battling.” Background Battling counts. That is why this page hammers one real clear instead of 40 manual retries with no pet.

Otherworldly Hunt is the upgrade, not a different game

Classic Wyvern 13 one-shots still work. Otherworldly Hunt is the 2026 farm: same Ice logic, higher equipment-score gear, Otherworldly-tagged pieces, more reds in the drop table. Enter it as soon as the team lives. If you fail, drop back to Hell / 13, fix Speed and Effectiveness, then go back up. Do not sit on Wyvern 11 for a month “to be safe.” The gear there is not what the gear guide is telling you to lock.

Otherworldly is also where you stop treating Hunt as a four-unit puzzle and start treating it as a loot filter. Keep Otherworldly pieces in the auto-sell settings. Extract boots. Speed-check Speed set. Everything else is gold or powder.

The other hunts, later

Once Wyvern Background Battling is printing Speed boots, open the others on purpose:

  • Golem — Health / Defense / Attack style sets, fire-heavy teams.
  • Banshee — Destruction and Lifesteal for DPS who already have Speed from Wyvern.
  • Azimanak / Caides — specialty PvP and bruiser sets. Farm when a specific unit on the PvE list asks for them.
  • Ogre Hunt — anniversary fold-in of Ogre’s Armory into Hunt. Otherworld difficulty only. Drops Reversal, Riposte, Warfare, and Pursuit (the old Rift sets). Hunt formation expanded to six slots. Farm Ogre after Wyvern Speed is automatic; these sets are PvP and bruiser jobs, not a beginner energy sink.

Rift was taken down for a rework during the anniversary. Ignore leftover “farm Rift on weekdays” advice.

Energy split

Leifs from codes and the anniversary shop belong in Hunt, not in Spirit Altar. A clean split after week one:

  • Enough story AP to finish Connections and Moonlight Blessing gates.
  • Enough Abyss entries to collect the easy floor rewards, then stop on the first mechanic wall.
  • Everything else into Wyvern / Otherworldly, especially during Hunt drop buffs.

Catalysts drop from Hunt too. Do not reroute the entire energy pool into catalyst stages because one skill-up is 20% short. Skill Furious’s defense break and A.Mont’s heal first; Sigret’s extra damage next. The rest of the roster can wait.

Wyvern is not a side activity you “get to after the banner.” It is the banner’s delivery system. A Sigret on 18-Speed boots with Daydream Joker will carry Abyss, Guild missions, and early Arena flags. A limited pickup in mixed story gear will not. Get the pet clear, queue Background Battling, and let Otherworldly fill the inventory while you play Paradise Lost. The account that respects Hunt once will still be wearing those boots when the next collab ships.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers Heirs search for every patch.

Which Hunt should a new Epic Seven player start?

Wyvern. It drops Speed sets and the free Ice core (Furious, Sigret, Muwi, Angelica / Angelic Montmorancy) is built for it.

Do I reroll for Sigret to farm Wyvern?

No. Sigret is free later through Hunt missions. Selective Summon is for Iseria and other units Connections will not give you.

What artifact do I put on Hunt DPS?

Daydream Joker. It scales with the boss's max Health and is the Hunt staple on Sigret, Alexa, and Muwi.

When do I move to Otherworldly Hunt?

As soon as the Ice core survives a run. Otherworldly drops higher equipment-score gear than classic Wyvern 13.

Does Background Battling require me to stay logged in?

No. After one Battle-Pet clear, it runs offline. Queue energy or Leifs, then collect with Calculate.

What does Ogre Hunt drop after the 8th anniversary?

Reversal, Riposte, Warfare, and Pursuit on Otherworld difficulty. Rift is suspended. Farm it after Wyvern Speed is automatic.
