Epic Seven Expeditions and Morale

Five timed bosses, gear charm rewards, morale management, and the camp picks that lead to Queen Azmakalis.

Epic Seven Expeditions

Expeditions are Epic Seven’s tactical dungeon mode. Five bosses chained together, with a morale system that buffs or debuffs your team depending on how you handle the camps between fights. The reward is gear charms and Covenant bookmarks for clearing each expedition on the highest difficulty. After the 8th anniversary rework, expeditions are the cleanest weekly loop outside Hunt and the easiest source of Greater Charms for veteran accounts.

Expeditions are not Hunt. Hunt is a single-boss farm. Expeditions are a four-camp chain that asks for sustain, a cleanser, and a hero who can carry the morale system. New accounts should finish Hunt and at least one Abyss floor before they queue expeditions — the difficulty curve assumes you have a soul weaver and a damage dealer with at least one decent gear set.

The five expeditions

Each expedition is named after its final boss. The chain is always five bosses long. The current rotation (post-INFINITY) is:

  • Expedition 1: Acolyte Kaleidoscope — five elemental bosses with weak defenses. Easy morale. Starter-friendly.
  • Expedition 2: Azimanak Hunt — fire and bruiser bosses. Tests your AoE clear.
  • Expedition 3: Juleeve Council — mage-heavy chain. Tests your magic tank.
  • Expedition 4: Steel Fortress — boss with self-buffs and counter-attack. Tests your sustain.
  • Expedition 5: Queen Azmakalis — the final boss. Three forms, requires an extinction or a heavy single-target nuke to break the cocoon phase.

Clearing expedition 5 is the unlock for the weekly reward track. Each expedition pays charms, gold, and a small amount of Covenant bookmarks.

Morale system

After each boss, you have a choice: camp or skip. Camping consumes morale but gives your team a buff that lasts for the rest of the expedition. Skipping saves morale for later camps. The catch: morale is finite. Run out of morale before expedition 5 and your team is below its base stats for the hardest boss.

The standard rule is to take every buff camp that matches your team comp. A fire expedition wants fire-damage buffs. A magic tank expedition wants defense buffs. The exact buff list rotates, but the principle is stable: pick the camp that buffs your strongest hero.

The morale calculator is a community tool (Fribbel’s optimizer, epic7db) that maps your roster to the optimal camp route. Use it once you have a roster of 8+ viable heroes. Below that, just take every buff camp.

Hero picks

Expedition 5 (Azmakalis) is the one that matters. The boss has three forms:

  • Phase 1 (normal): AoE damage, summons Royal Guards, applies Unhealable.
  • Phase 2 (cocoon): Invulnerable. Spawns waves of spiders that must be cleared to break the cocoon. Applies poison aura continuously.
  • Phase 3 (enraged): Massive damage increase, single-target bursts, persistent debuffs.

A standard expedition 5 team is:

  • 1 tank — Fallen Cecilia is the common pick. High HP, defense buffs, self-cleanse. Kraken and Falconer Kluri are alternatives.
  • 1 single-target DPS — Specter Tenebria, Arbiter Vildred, Luna, or Hecate if the boss has revives.
  • 1 soul weaver — Tamarinne for full cleanse, Angelica for immunity, Montmorancy specialty for budget option.
  • 1 flex — either a second DPS for damage or a second cleanser for poison-heavy phases.

Hunt-ready Sigret and Furious do not carry expedition 5. They are too single-target focused and lack the sustain or self-cleanse to survive the cocoon phase. Build a separate team for expeditions.

Artifact picks

  • Tank: Aurius for damage share, Adamant Shield for AoE mitigation, or Elbris Ritual Sword for counter-attack.
  • DPS: Daydream Joker for the cocoon phase (it scales on max HP), Portrait of the Saviors for boss execute.
  • Soul weaver: Rod of Amaryllis for healing throughput, Potion Vial for poison phases, or a generic cleanser artifact.

What not to do

  • Do not bring an AoE-only team. AoE is wasted on phase 1 and 3. Bring a single-target carry.
  • Do not skip all the camps. Morale buffs are what let you survive phase 3.
  • Do not gear a separate expedition unit until Hunt is automatic. Use the heroes you already built. If you have Iseria, Angelica, Specter Tenebria, and Tamarinne from Hunt and Abyss, that is your expedition team.
  • Do not bring the Hunt debuff team to expeditions. Furious and Muwi work in Hunt because Wyvern has high HP. Expedition bosses punish the same debuff timing because of invuln phases.

Rewards and weekly loop

Each expedition pays charms, gold, and a small amount of bookmarks. The 8th anniversary rework added a weekly reward track: completing all five expeditions gives a Greater Charm Selection Chest, a stack of Leifs, and a small Covenant Bookmark bundle. Veterans run it once a week for the chest.

The expedition team also doubles as a Hell Raid starter. The boss design is similar enough that a well-built expedition team can clear early Hell Raid floors without a dedicated team.

If you are new and expeditions feel like too much content, finish getting started, clear one Hunt, then come back. The expedition loop is a weekly chore that pays you for being efficient, not a daily grind.

For the systems that feed expeditions, read:

  • Hunt — the gear source.
  • Abyss — the skill check that tests your sustain.
  • Hell Raid — the next difficulty tier.

Expeditions are the cleanest weekly loop in the game for veterans and the easiest skill check for new accounts with a Hunt team. Run it once a week on Saturday, take the camp buffs your team needs, and let the charms land in the mail.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers Heirs search for every patch.

How many expeditions are there in Epic Seven?

Five, chained in order: Acolyte Kaleidoscope, Azimanak Hunt, Juleeve Council, Steel Fortress, Queen Azmakalis. Clearing all five unlocks the weekly reward track.

What is morale in expeditions?

A finite resource that buffs your team when you camp. Take the buff camps that match your team comp. Skip camps if you need to save morale for later bosses. The Fribbel's optimizer has a morale calculator.

What team clears Queen Azmakalis?

Fallen Cecilia + single-target DPS (Specter Tenebria, Luna, Hecate for revives) + Tamarinne for cleanse + a flex spot. Do not bring an AoE-only team — phase 1 and 3 want single-target.

Do expeditions pay bookmarks?

Each expedition pays a small amount. The weekly clear bonus pays a Greater Charm Selection Chest, Leifs, and a small Covenant Bookmark bundle.
