Frieren Hero Build

Frieren is the 5-star collaboration Mage released as part of the Epic Seven x Frieren crossover. She is a limited-time hero summonable only during the collaboration window — when the banner closes, she is locked behind Mystic Summons. Her kit is built around three ideas: she starts combat with extra souls, her S3 dispels and penetrates defense, and her S1 hits all enemies with scaling damage. On the RTA stat page at e7rtabot.com, she sits at #8 in damage dealt out of 132 meta heroes and #127 in damage suffered, which means she wins by stalling rather than bursting. She is on the SS-tier defense list in the PvP tier list and on the Moonlight defense core. If you played the collaboration banner, she is built first. If you missed her, the Moonlight ranks tell you whether to chase her with Mystic Summons.

Her S1 (Ordinary Offensive Magic) grants the caster immunity for 1 turn on cast, and on the caster’s turn activates Vollzanbel — an extra AoE flame magic attack that scales with the enemy’s lost Health. The lost-HP scaling means she hits harder on round 2 than round 1, and harder on round 3 than round 2 — exactly the attrition profile that wins RTA defense. Her S2 (The Highest Form of Magic) is a passive that grants 40 % resource increase to all allies at the start of battle, Defensive Magic while Soul is 4 or higher, and a 10 % Combat Readiness push to all allies after the caster is attacked. That is the soul-weaver-tier utility packed into a Mage slot — start of battle resource acceleration is something only a few units in the game have. Her S3 (Judradjim) is a 4-turn ultimate that grants the caster increased Attack for 3 turns, then attacks all enemies with lightning magic, dispelling all buffs, and penetrating 50 % of the target’s Defense. Soulburn reduces the cost to -10 souls. The pen-def + AoE dispel is the kill condition — every immunity buffer and damage-share buff gets stripped before the damage lands.

Why Frieren is the 2026 RTA defense meta

The Propelrc September 2026 tier list puts Frieren at SS-tier RTA for three reasons stacked together:

  • Start-of-battle resource acceleration — 40 % soul boost across the whole team. That lines up with the second-turn S3 cycle most Arena defense builds chase.
  • Dispel pen-def AoE — the ultimate strips buffs and ignores half the enemy’s defense. With max skill-ups, the cooldown drops by 1 turn.
  • Damage scaling on lost HP — every round she is alive, she hits harder. Stall defense wins.

For most players, Frieren is the answer to cleave Arena drafts that try to kill the defense before turn 2. Her S1 immunity keeps her alive through the opening burst, and her passive CR push pulls her team back into the cycle before the cleave can convert the second turn. Pair her with revival or immortality and the cleave never lands.

Skill kit

S3 — Judradjim (4-turn, +3 souls)

After granting increased Attack to the caster for 3 turns, attacks all enemies with lightning magic, dispelling all buffs, and penetrating the target’s Defense by 50 %. Soulburn (-10 souls) reduces the cost; skill-ups raise the damage by 5 % per rank until the +6 +10 % spike, and -1 cooldown on certain ranks.

This is the kill condition. The dispel strips every immunity buffer, every damage-share buff, every defense buff on the enemy team. The pen-def doubles the effective damage on tankier targets. The attack buff persists for 3 turns, so even if the S3 AoE misses, the next round still hits harder.

S2 — The Highest Form of Magic (passive)

At the start of battle, grants 40 % resource increase to all allies. During battle, when Soul is 4 or higher, grants Defensive Magic. After being attacked, increases Combat Readiness of all allies by 10 %. Skill-ups raise the CR push bonus by 1 % per rank.

The start-of-battle resource increase is the rare piece — only a handful of units in the game give the whole team a soul head start. The CR push on being attacked turns Frieren into a counter that scales with cleave pressure; the more the enemy attacks her, the faster her team cycles back. Defensive Magic at 4+ souls means she is self-sufficient on sustain once she has had one turn to ramp.

S1 — Ordinary Offensive Magic (no cooldown, +1 soul)

Single-target magic attack that grants the caster immunity for 1 turn and on the caster’s turn activates Vollzanbel — an AoE flame magic attack that scales with the enemy’s lost Health. Soulburn reduces the cost to -10 souls; skill-ups raise the damage.

The self-immunity is the anti-cleave lock. The Vollzanbel scaling is the late-game attrition payoff. In RTA defense, the first round she casts S1, she gains immunity and the enemy cleave misses. In round 2, she casts S3 and the AoE pen-def lands. By round 3, the Vollzanbel scaling means every basic attack hits for 30 %+ more than it did in round 1.

Stat priority

Frieren is a mage DPS / RTA defense anchor. The stat priority is Speed, Attack %, Crit damage %, Effect Resistance.

  • Speed: target 200–240 for Arena / RTA defense. Faster than the cleave means she casts first.
  • Attack %: target 2,800+ for the S3 AoE damage to clear backline soul weavers.
  • Crit damage %: target 250 %+ if you are building her as a DPS carry. Her S1 AoE benefits from crit scaling on the late-game rounds.
  • Effect Resistance: target 80–100 % if the enemy has dispel-heavy drafts. S3 dispels, but you do not want her dispelled before she casts.

Artifacts: Rhinoceros Horn for the bonus-turn cycling that lines up with her S3 cast. Tome of Life is the wrong artifact — she is not a HP-scaling bruiser. Song of Stars is a CR-push opener alternative. The hero artifacts page lists slotting priorities.

Skill-ups

S3 first — Judradjim is the kill condition. +6 minimum for the cooldown reduction and damage spike. S2 next — the passive CR push scales with skill-ups. S1 last — Ordinary Offensive Magic is filler for the immunity turn.

MolaGora budget: dump into S3 until +6. +15 if she is your RTA defense carry. S2 to +3 for the CR push bonus.

Team fit

Frieren fits RTA defense, Arena defense, and a few specific Hell Raid compositions. The 2026 templates:

  • RTA defense: Frieren + Ruele of Light + Fallen Cecilia + Remnant Violet. Revive chain + immunity buffer + counter tank + Frieren stall.
  • Arena defense: Frieren + Angelica + Krau + flex. Fast soul weaver + tank + AoE dispel carry.
  • Hell Raid Burst: Frieren + Tamarinne + DPS + DPS. The start-of-battle resource acceleration lines up with Tamarinne’s S3 cycle.

She is not a Hunt unit, not an Abyss carry, not a Moonlight priority over Briar Witch Iseria if you only have one PvP slot. For RTA defense she is on the short list.

Counters to Frieren

Frieren is strong but not uncounterable.

  • Skill nullifier on her S1 turn — if you land skill nullifier before she casts immunity, the S1 is wasted and she dies to the next cleave.
  • Extinction — Briar Witch Iseria or Hecate passives shut down her revival chain. She does not have revive herself, but RTA defense runs revive chains around her.
  • Dispel before she casts S3 — if the enemy soul weaver strips her attack buff and CR push, the S3 lands for less damage. Bring a stripper and a defense breaker.

What not to do

  • Do not put Daydream Joker on Frieren. It is a Hunt artifact. She is a Mage.
  • Do not build Effect Resistance past 100 %. She needs Speed and Attack to land the kill condition.
  • Do not use her in Hunt 13. She is not a Hunt DPS.
  • Do not chase her with Mystic Summons if you only play PvE. The Moonlight ranks prioritize Salome for PvE, Briar Witch Iseria for PvP, Lisette for general use.

Frieren is the 2026 RTA defense Mage from the collaboration. The PvP tier list ranks her SS-tier. The RTA stats page shows her damage-dealt rank. The Moonlight ranks tell you whether to chase her with Mystic Summons. If you picked her up during the collaboration, she is on the priority build list.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers Heirs search for every patch.

Is Frieren good in 2026?

Yes. She is the SS-tier RTA defense Mage with start-of-battle resource acceleration, AoE dispel pen-def ultimate, and damage scaling on lost HP. Stall defense wins on attrition.

What artifact does Frieren want?

Rhinoceros Horn for bonus-turn cycling. Song of Stars as a CR-push alternative. Do not put Daydream Joker on her — she is not a Hunt DPS.

Should I Mystic Summon Frieren?

Only if you play RTA or Arena defense. For pure PvE, spend Mystic medals on Salome or Lisette. Read the Moonlight ranks.

Is Frieren a Hunt unit?

No. She is a Mage DPS / RTA defense anchor. The Hunt core wants Sigret, Furious, Alexa, and a soul weaver.
