Draft logic, speed tuning, immunity sets, and the three mistakes that lose more matches than bad gear.

Epic Seven PvP Fundamentals

PvP in Epic Seven is not one game. It is four overlapping modes with different rules, rewards, and skill trees. This page is the PvP fundamentals guide: what each mode asks of you, how to read a draft, why your cleave dies to a slower team, and which habits you must unlearn from PvE. Read the Arena guide for the full World Arena process. Read this page before you queue your first ranked match.

The four PvP modes

Automatic Arena — 5v5, no draft, no ban, no pick. You press “Start” and the game runs both sides. Rewards are Conquest Points (CP) and weekly chests. This is the low-stakes farming mode. It does not teach you drafting. It does not teach you timing. It teaches you that a 280 Speed opener beats a 250 Speed opener. Nothing else.

World Arena (Ranked) — 3v3 draft with bans. You ban two heroes, your opponent bans two, then you pick in turns. Warfare Rules (seasonal modifiers) change which heroes are stronger each season. This is where Champion frames, seasonal rewards, and E7WC qualification live. The Arena guide is the full process page; this page is the vocabulary page.

Real-Time Arena (RTA) — 1v1, full draft with bans, pick order matters. You see the opponent’s hero before you pick yours. Counter-pick is legal and common at higher ranks. RTA is the hardest PvP mode because you are reading one opponent’s habits, not a team’s.

The Call of Chaos — 3v3 arcade mode, shorter pick-ban, Sentinel destruction win condition, Fate choices mid-battle. Added in the 8th anniversary patch (27 August 2026). Not ranked. Not RTA. Uses World Arena heroes and rules. See the Call of Chaos guide.

The immunity set trap

The single most expensive mistake new PvP players make is equipping Immunity set on every hero. Here is why it is wrong:

  • Immunity set gives 65% Effect Resistance. That sounds safe.
  • A debuff that lands 35% of the time still lands 35% of the time on a 280 Speed opener.
  • A strip from Song of Stars removes your immunity before you take a turn.
  • A well-tuned cleave team with Tagahel’s Ancient Book and Speed imprints does not care if you are immune. They care if you are fast.

The correct default is Speed set on openers and damage dealers. Immunity set is a niche choice for soul weavers against heavy control, not a universal gear slot. If you are equipping Immunity because you do not know what else to put there, you are spending resources on the wrong problem.

Speed tuning basics

Speed is the first stat in Epic Seven PvP. Not Attack, not Crit Chance, not Effectiveness. Speed.

The reason is Combat Readiness (CR): every action fills a CR bar. When your bar fills, you act. A 280 Speed hero takes more turns than a 250 Speed hero in the same amount of time. That is all speed means. It means turns, not “how fast your animation plays.”

A basic speed ladder for a cleave team:

  • Opener (AoE strip / def break): 280+ Speed
  • Cleave damage dealer: 270+ Speed (after opener goes)
  • Soul weaver / support: 250 Speed (reads the board)
  • Bruiser carry: 220–250 Speed (after support cycle)

Use the speed tuning tool to calculate exact numbers. Do not guess. A 5 Speed difference at the opener tier can mean your team goes second into a full AoE.

Cleave versus tank-down

Cleave means going first, stripping or making the enemy unbuffable, and executing the entire enemy team before they take a turn. It requires:

  • 280+ Speed opener
  • Tagahel’s Ancient Book or Song of Stars on the stripper
  • An AoE execute (Arbiter Vildred, Landy, Cermia)
  • A defense break on the carry before the execute

Cleave is the highest-risk, highest-reward strategy. If you go first, you win. If you go second, your cleave team does nothing because your damage dealers are dead.

Tank-down means accepting you will not go first and building a team that outlasts the cleave:

  • Two bruisers with high HP and Defense
  • A soul weaver with team-wide heal and CR push
  • Aurius on the Knight to share damage
  • Counter-attack set on the counter-pick

Tank-down wins by surviving the first turn and winning the attrition war on turns 2–5. It does not need Speed. It needs bulk, healing, and patience.

Reading a draft

A World Arena draft has six visible decisions:

  1. First ban — eliminate the hero that destroys your strategy. Cleave teams ban anti-cleave. Tank-down teams ban the extinction unit.
  2. First pick — take your win condition. The hero you cannot counter and will build the rest of the team around.
  3. Second ban — eliminate the hero that counters your first pick.
  4. Second and third pick — fill the gaps: do you have a soul weaver? A damage dealer? A Knight?
  5. Counter-pick — in RTA, the last pick sees the opponent’s full team and picks into their composition.
  6. Fate selection (Call of Chaos only) — mid-battle choices that can flip a losing matchup.

The mistake beginners make is picking heroes they like rather than heroes that answer the enemy. If the enemy picks Lisette, you pick extinction. If the enemy picks a cleave team, you pick control. Draft is a conversation, not a list of favorites.

The three habits to unlearn from PvE

Habit 1:堆 Attack. In PvE, Attack stats win fights. In PvP, Speed wins fights. A 300 Attack cleaver with no speed is a dead cleaver. Put Speed boots on your damage dealers before you put Attack gloves on them.

Habit 2: Always attack. In PvE, you attack every turn because attacking is damage. In PvP, sometimes you do not act so your CR does not push forward and you can react to the enemy. Passing CR is a tool. Using it is how you stop a 280 Speed opener from running away with the match.

Habit 3: Focus the tank. In PvE, you focus the boss. In PvP, you focus the win condition. Killing a Knight with Aurius first means your damage goes to the Knight and your team takes the Aurius share. Kill the damage dealer first. Let the Knight eat the crumbs.

Artifacts that decide games

ArtifactWho uses itWhy it matters
Tagahel’s Ancient BookAoE openers, magesExtra AoE hit after the first, wins the speed war
Song of StarsRangers, openersStrips two buffs before the enemy acts
AuriusKnightsShares 20% of damage to the Knight, reduces burst
Proof of ValorKnights, tanks25% provoke on crit, locks down the enemy opener
Rod of AmaryllisSoul weaversTeam-wide heal plus CR push, the sustain cornerstone
Daydream JokerHunt artifact only. Do not bring this to PvP.

What to build first

  1. Speed boots for your opener (280+ Speed target)
  2. Tagahel’s Ancient Book or Song of Stars for your stripper
  3. Aurius on your Knight
  4. A 220+ Speed soul weaver so she cycles before the enemy bruisers
  5. Then build damage dealers to the Speed cap your opener sets

The gear and equipment guide covers how to farm those pieces. This page assumes you have the basics of Hunt farming and are ready to convert Wyvern Speed boots into PvP gear.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers Heirs search for every patch.

What is the most common mistake in Epic Seven PvP?

Equipping Immunity set on every hero. Speed set is the correct default for damage dealers and openers. Immunity is situational for soul weavers against heavy control.

How important is Speed in PvP?

Speed is the first stat. A 280 Speed opener goes before a 250 Speed team and wins the match before it starts. Use the speed tuning tool before you equip any PvP gear.

What is the difference between cleave and tank-down?

Cleave goes first and executes the enemy team before they act. Tank-down accepts going second and wins by outlasting the cleave through bulk, healing, and Aurius damage share.

Should I bring Daydream Joker to PvP?

No. Daydream Joker is a Hunt artifact that scales with max HP. It does not belong in PvP. Tagahel's Ancient Book and Song of Stars are the standard PvP artifacts.
