Epic Seven Aubade Ludwig of the Dawn Overture
Ice Ranger released June 2026 — banks souls with Dawn buff, triggers Light of Condemnation for massive AoE fixed damage.
Aubade Ludwig of the Dawn Overture (commonly called Ludwig) is the Ice 5-star Ranger released on 12 June 2026 as a key character in the EPISODE 6 Part 1: ‘Elegy of the End’ story arc. He is the last survivor of the ‘Nocturnes’ clan, appearing as an ally to Ras as the hero investigates the Order of the Black Grail. His kit centers on banking team Soul with the Dawn buff, then triggering Light of Condemnation — a once-per-turn extra attack that hits all enemies and consumes the Dawn stack for massive fixed AoE damage that can exceed 30,000.
Ludwig is a CovenantSummon unit, not a Moonlight. He appears on standard Covenant banners and the wishlist. His showcase went live on 12 June 2026 via the official Epic Seven YouTube channel (video id above). The kit details below come from epic7db.com and the official reveal. Numbers assume default skill levels unless noted.
Why Ludwig matters in 2026
The 2026 RTA meta settled into Soul-cycling and high-fixed-damage compositions after the May balance patch restored Arbiter Vildred and the INFINITY client shipped Call of Chaos. Ludwig fits both patterns: he accelerates ally Soul generation while holding a personal nuke that ignores defense and does not trigger injury or counter procs. The YouTube showcase by Moriyaism demonstrated a 30,000+ fixed damage Light of Condemnation triggering twice in one fight via S2 CR push (video id above).
He is not a Hunt unit. Do not put Daydream Joker on Ludwig. He is an RTA and Arena hero whose job is acceleration plus execute. PvE farmers should look at Sigret, Furious, and Muwi for Wyvern, not at Ludwig.
Skill kit
S3 — Nocturne’s Requiem (5-turn, +3 souls)
Calls down moonlight strikes on all enemies, dealing damage proportional to the Soul held by the ally with the most Soul at the moment of cast. Grants Ludwig Dawn — an undispellable buff that doubles the Soul his entire team acquires and gives his attacks a chance to stun. Dawn stacks are consumed when Light of Condemnation triggers. The S3 is the setup spell: cast it early to seed Dawn, then push CR so Ludwig acts again before the enemy cleans the buff.
S2 — Overture of Dawn (4-turn, +2 souls)
Pushes all allies’ Combat Readiness by 30% and extends the duration of Dawn on Ludwig by 1 turn. Soulburn (-10 souls) extends Dawn on all allies. The S2 is the acceleration tool — it triggers Light of Condemnation sooner by cycling Ludwig back to act, and it keeps the Dawn stack alive across multiple turns. S2 into S1 into S3 is the standard opening sequence for a Ludwig cleave.
S1 — Moonlight Strike (no cooldown, +1 soul)
Single-target strike that triggers Light of Condemnation if Ludwig holds Dawn. Light of Condemnation is a once-per-turn extra attack hitting all enemies, dealing fixed damage that scales with Ludwig’s Attack and consuming one stack of Dawn. The S1 is the trigger — you do not S1 for the single-target damage, you S1 because it fires the AoE fixed nuke if Dawn is active. Do not S1 without Dawn unless the target is low enough to die to the base hit.
Passive — Nocturne’s Legacy
While Ludwig holds Dawn, his attacks cannot be reflected. This is the off-switch to typical counter and injury setups that punish AoE openers. It does not make him immune to strip or unbuffable — it only blocks reflection-based counters.
Stat priority
Ludwig is a fixed-damage AoE nuke with Soul acceleration. The stat priority is Attack%, Speed, CritChance, Effectiveness, HP/Defense as substats.
- Attack%: Light of Condemnation scales with Ludwig’s Attack. Target 3,500+ Attack as a baseline for a 25,000+ nuke.
- Speed: target 220–250. He needs to act twice in the opening sequence (S2 push + S1 trigger). Faster than 250 is fine but trades Crit substats.
- CritChance: target 85–100%. Light of Condemnation can crit. A missed crit on a 30k nuke is a lost fight.
- Effectiveness: target 65–100% if you draft into teams that stack Effect Resistance. Most cleave teams skip this.
- HP/Defense: substats only. Ludwig is not a bruiser; he is a glass cannon nuke.
Artifacts: Portrait of the Saviors is the default — it grants Attack and pushes CR on AoE hit, which synergizes with Ludwig’s double-tap pattern. Song of Stars is the PvP opener artifact for CR push plus strip. Tagahel’s Ancient Book is the standard cleave opener artifact. Do not use Daydream Joker — it is a Hunt artifact.
Skill-ups
S3 first — Nocturne’s Requiem is the setup and the Dawn seed. +6 minimum for the duration extension. S2 next — Overture of Dawn is the acceleration and the CR push. +3 minimum for the push strength. S1 last — Moonlight Strike triggers Light of Condemnation; skill-ups raise the base hit damage, which matters only if you S1 without Dawn.
MolaGora budget: S3 +6, S2 +3, S1 +3 is the standard Ludwig investment. +15 if he is your primary Arena / RTA carry.
Team fit
Ludwig fits cleave and acceleration compositions:
- Standard cleave: Ludwig + Tagahel’s Ancient Book opener + strip unit + soul weaver. Ludwig casts S3 to seed Dawn, strip unit removes buffs, S2 pushes CR, S1 triggers Light of Condemnation for 25–30k AoE.
- Soul acceleration: Ludwig + units that generate extra Soul (Advocate Zerato, Commander Piramania). More Soul in the bank means higher S3 damage.
- Call of Chaos: Ludwig’s fixed-damage nuke is effective in the 3v3 format because Sentinel HP is high and fixed damage bypasses Guardian shields.
He is not a Hunt unit, not a solo lane, and not a tank-down piece. His job is acceleration plus execute. If you need a farmer, build Sigret. If you need a stall anchor, build Apocalypse Ravi.
Counters to Ludwig
- Speed contest: if your opener is faster than Ludwig’s S3 sequence, you cleave before Dawn lands. 260+ Speed openers beat Ludwig’s standard tune.
- Extinction: Ludwig is a Ranger with no self-revive and no shield. Extinction from Briar Witch Iseria, Prophet of the Stars Sinful Angelica, or Hecate deletes him before S2 fires.
- Effect Resistance: high ER teams survive the stun chance from Dawn and do not get stripped before the nuke lands.
- Unbuffable before S3: if you apply Unable to be Buffed before Ludwig casts S3, Dawn never lands and Light of Condemnation does not trigger.
What not to do
- Do not put Daydream Joker on Ludwig. It is a Hunt artifact. He is not a Hunt unit.
- Do not S1 without Dawn active. The base hit is single-target and weak; you S1 to trigger Light of Condemnation.
- Do not draft Ludwig into extinction-heavy defenses. He has no answer to Briar Witch Iseria’s passive.
- Do not skip S2 molas. The CR push is what makes the double-tap sequence work.
Cross-link checklist
Ludwig is the 2026 Soul-acceleration AoE nuke for Arena and Call of Chaos. The PvP tier list ranks him as a solid A-tier cleave pick post-June 2026. The heroes hub is the map; this page is the June 2026 addition that belongs on it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers Heirs search for every patch.
When was Aubade Ludwig released?
12 June 2026 via Covenant Summon, as part of EPISODE 6 Part 1: 'Elegy of the End'. He is a standard Covenant unit, not Moonlight or limited.
What does Dawn do on Ludwig?
Dawn is an undispellable buff that doubles team Soul generation and gives Ludwig's attacks a chance to stun. When he has Dawn and uses S1, it triggers Light of Condemnation — a once-per-turn AoE fixed damage hit that consumes one Dawn stack.
How does Ludwig deal 30,000 fixed damage?
Light of Condemnation scales with Ludwig's Attack and the Soul held by the ally with the most Soul at the time of cast. S3 seeds Dawn, S2 pushes CR, S1 triggers the AoE nuke. The 30k showcase used high-Attack gear plus Soul-heavy ally compositions.
What artifact does Ludwig want?
Portrait of the Saviors is the default for CR push on AoE hit. Tagahel's Ancient Book is the standard cleave opener artifact. Song of Stars is the PvP CR-plus-strip option. Do not use Daydream Joker — he is not a Hunt unit.
